“The Joys and Challenges of Local Theater”
Speaker – Beatrice Casagran, director of Ophelia’s Jump Productions
Beatrice Casagran will talk about her 20 years of experiences leading theater productions in the Claremont area.
A theatrical educator, actor, director, and producer, Beatrice co-founded Ophelia’s Jump Productions in 2012 with a mission to produce works that invite questioning and spark discourse while providing meaningful opportunities to underrepresented artists. Since that time Ophelia’s Jump has grown from an itinerant company renting space at clubs, galleries, and other theaters to an established and critically acclaimed non-profit theater company with theater space in Upland.
Casagran led Ophelia’s Jump in launching the annual Claremont Midsummer Shakespeare Festival, which includes Shakespower Camp for young performers and a paid internship program. Ophelia’s Jump was honored as the Claremont Non-Profit of the Year for 2016 for its work in the community, including the Theatre for Good Program.

“Pomona Valley History 1830 – 1870”
Speaker – Debra Clifford, president of the Historical Society of Pomona
Learn about the interesting history of the Pomona Valley! The goal of the Historical Society of Pomona, founded in 1916, is to make the rich and diverse history of the Pomona Valley become a meaningful part of people’s lives. For many years, tourists and locals have visited and toured these historic sites: Casa Primera de Palomares, Adobe de Palomares, Phillips Mansion, the Currier home, and Spadra cemetery. Unfortunately, on Sept. 29, 2024, one of the historical buildings had a fire – the society accepts any help.
Debra Clifford is the current president of HSPV, in her 8th year. She taught English for many years, retired, and studied history. In so doing, she also found a love for telling stories.
