University Club programs
are open to the public and are held Tuesdays in the Padua
Room of the Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Road, Claremont,
Cali fornia. Meetings start at 11:30 AM. The $20 meeting fee includes a buffet lunch. Membership applications are available at each meeting. Map to Hughes Community Center

December 5  – “Seasonal Songs from Around the World

 

 

 

 

Speaker – Dr. Joel Wilson, Director of the Claremont High School Singers
The award-winning Claremont High School Singers will perform seasonal songs for us from around the world. Their director, Dr. Joel Wilson, is a graduate of Claremont High School and has his PhD in music from Cal Poly, Pomona. This program marks our regular Christmas celebration at the University Club before the holiday weeks begin. Use this festive occasion to celebrate with your family, wear red and green and be ready to sing along to a familiar carol or two. December 12 – “True Stores of Claremont”

Speaker – Hal Durian, author, historian, teacher, newspaper columnist, US Navy veteran, world traveler

Hal’s program will be about his newest book, True Stories of Claremont. Even if you don’t live in Claremont, you will enjoy learning new things about local history. Hal has been a member of the University Club for many years, and has served on the Program Committee as well as contributing to the historical collection. He earned a BA from UC Riverside and an advanced degree in history from the University of Arizona. Hal wrote a weekly column on history for the Riverside Press Enterprise from 2005 to 2012. His publications include True Stories of Riverside and True Stories of Claremont. Hal taught history and government at Chaffey High School in Ontario for 41 years. After retiring, the Durians traveled to Russia, Spain, China and India. Hal is currently publishing a book of cartoons.
