PUSD Superintendent Darren Knowles.

While our club has regularly heard from the Claremont Unified SchoolDistrict, we have this opportunity to hear from the substantially larger Pomona Unified School District. Many of our club members live andwork in Pomona. Bring you questions!

Darren Knowles is the Superintendent of Pomona Unified SchoolDistrict (PUSD), known for its award-winning programs and student-focused approach. With over 30 years in education, Knowles began as ahistory teacher and coach at Marshall Middle School and PomonaAlternative School. He advanced to become Principal at Simons MiddleSchool, where he led significant improvements in student achievementand parent involvement, including high library usage and thegraduation of over 600 parents from a quality education program.

Knowles transitioned to Human Resources, where he played a key rolein hiring over 2,000 employees and introducing technology tostreamline district operations. His tenure saw successful grantapplications for various programs, including “Community Schools” and “Teacher as a Priority.” As Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources,he negotiated agreements, managed budgets, and supported grant implementations.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts inEducational Leadership, both from California institutions, and hastaught as an Adjunct Professor. Knowles has been involved with theBoys and Girls Club of Pomona and AYSO, and is a member of severaleducational associations. He upholds the belief that “Student Success isOur Success.”
