“Evidence-Based Approaches to Help People with Depression Seek Help” –
Although depression is treatable, many people with depression never seek help. Unlike many other ailments, as a person becomes more depressed, their help-seeking attitude becomes less favorable, and they are less likely to seek help. Thistalk will illustrate the harm that can occur when trying to influence people withdepression to seek help and provide evidence-based approaches for successfullyincreasing help-seeking among this population.
Dr. Spiegel’s research focuses on the social psychology of health behaviorchange. He has been an investigator for over $25 million of grants and contracts,is working on a federally funded grant to to help military members, and workswith HCA Healthcare on research to improve the well-being of medical residents.He has served or is currently serving on several editorial boards of journals.
