“My Job as an Art Critic or What I did for my Summer Vacation”
Speaker – Dr. David Pagel, professor of art theory and history, Claremont Graduate University
David Pagel will present his views of his role as a newspaper art critic, offering insights on his beliefs about accessibility, elitism, expertise, education, experience, judgment, beauty, democracy, art, and life. He will also discuss exhibitions he reviewed, essays he wrote, and shows he organized this past summer.
Dr. Pagel is a professor of art theory and history at CGU. He writes regularly for the L.A. Times and is an adjunct curator at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, NY. He earned an MA in art history from Harvard and a PhD in modern thought and literature from Stanford.
