“The Increased Popularity of Birding – What’s it All About and How You Can Get
Involved” –
Why are one third of American adults now birdwatching? Why has there been a 5-fold increase in the use of birding phone apps since 2020? Could it be because birding is good for you? Your brain benefits because it increases neuroplasticity and helps you retain long term memory as you age. Your body benefits because it helps you be physically active. Birdwatching improves your mood and mental health. Just being near birds can increase your mental wellbeing score. If that’s not enough reasons to wonder why birding has become so popular join our guest speakers, Tina Stoner and Laura Jaoui from the Pomona Valley Audubon Society (PVAS), to learn more about why they want you to connect with nature through birds. Come learn how PVAS promotes the enjoyment of birding, furthers education of the natural world, works for bird and habitat conservation, and how you can get involved.
Tina Stoner is the chapter president of PVAS and started birding just 15 years ago, which illustrates you can start at any age. She is retired from the CA Department of Corrections and lives in Alta Loma. Laura Jaoui is the Education Chair for PVAS and a local Claremonter with family ties to the University Club. She will share the pleasures she finds attending PVAS meetings and volunteering with her fellow Audubon members.
This meeting with speakers Tina Stoner and Laura Jaoui was a presentation at DoubleTree in Claremont.
