About the University Club of Claremont
History
The University Club of Claremont was organized in 1924, in Claremont, California under the leadership of Pomona College faculty, with Dr. George Sumner as its first president. The University Club is an association of university and college graduates, professional people and community leaders seeking to:
- Stir intellectual curiosity and create a spirit of inquiry
- Encourage the art of good conversation
- Widen and deepen friendships
- Support educational and cultural aspects of the community with Grants and scholarships

The Club provides intellectually stimulating, informative, or entertaining programs on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, except for Christmas and New Year’s weeks and the month of August. The Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 12:00 (gathering after 11:30) at the Sycamore Room of the Doubletree Hotel 555 W Foothill Blvd, Claremont. A lunch is served at 12:00, and the speaker is introduced at 1:00. The meeting cost is $20.00, including lunch prepared by the Doubletree. Applications for club membership are available on our website, and dues are $95 per year.
Club Meeting Held Second and Fourth Tuesdays
University Club Meetings are open to the public and are held the second and fourth Tuesdays in the Sycamore Room of the Doubletree Hotel, 555 W Foothill Blvd, Claremont. The $20 meeting fee includes a luncheon prepared by the Doubletree. Membership applications are on our website.
