“San Antonio High School - Claremont’s Continuation High School”"

Speaker: Andrea Deligio, Principal

Andrea Deligio and the teaching staff of San Antonio High School will discuss the "other high school in Claremont." They will provide an overview of the role of the school, the students, specific programs and the successes of the school.

As explained in a recent Claremont Courier article, some people think of “continuation schools” as a punishment or even dumping ground for students who have various problems. San Antonio High School is 60 years old and the recipient of numerous academic awards. The school provides alternative ways of learning and one-on-one support for all students.

"The Legacy of Astronaut Sally Ride"

Speaker: Rev. Karen “Bear” Ride

Bear Ride, sister of Sally Ride, will share thoughts about Sally’s legacy, her experiences as an astronaut, and the causes that mattered deeply to Sally and continue to matter to Reverend Ride. Reverend Ride is an ordained Presbyterian minister who once served at the Claremont Presbyterian Church.

"Investing in These Turbulent Times"

Speaker: Don Gould, president and chief investment officer, Gould Asset Management

We are honored to have a financial expert give his analysis of the current economic market. Bring your questions about investments!

Don Gould is the president and chief investment officer of Gould Asset Management, which he founded in 1999. He holds a BA in Economics from Pomona College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has served for many years as a visiting lecturer in portfolio management at the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance at Claremont McKenna College and an adjunct professor of finance at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at the Claremont Graduate University. Don is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Pitzer College, former president of both the Pomona College Alumni Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont, and has served on numerous non-profit boards.

"Eldercare Experiences in the Claremont Area"

Speaker: Gus Boesch, Rita Dixon, Charleen Krueger, and Jack Mills

Speakers who live at four eldercare facilities will talk about why they made the choice to move there and how it has been going. On our panel are residents from Hillcrest, Claremont Manor, Pilgrim Place, and Mt. San Antonio Gardens. This will be a personal and informative session (no sales reps!). If you’re considering making residence decisions, or you know anybody who’s considering making residence decisions, this is the meeting for you.

Gus and Martha Boesch have lived in Claremont for over 35 years. Gus spent a varied career in the healthcare industry from which he retired in 2014. They moved across the street to Pilgrim Place in 2022. Gus has managed logistics for the Pilgrim Place Festival for four years and serves as a medical advocate for patients.

Rita Dixon worked as Assistant Superintendent of Business for several school districts in the Los Angeles area and was Chair of Association of California School Administrators for the greater L.A. region. Once she retired, she volunteered for various positions at her church and community and is now is Chair of the Residents Association for Hillcrest Retirement Community where she and her husband moved in 2021.

Charleen Krueger had a 50-year nursing career, serving patients and their families from prenatal care to hospice. In her later years she was “Parish Nurse” for the Claremont Quaker Meeting. She and her husband Bob moved to Claremont Manor in 2023 when they were unable to safely manage his vascular dementia at home. 

Jack Mills and wife Susan Lominska moved to Claremont in 1975 for Jack to enter the PhD program in psychology at CGU. He worked for the insurance arm of Kaiser Permanente for 20 years, followed by 23 years as an independent program evaluation consultant in education.  He spent 14 years on the Claremont Board of Education and is currently board president of CLASP—Claremont After-School Programs. Jack and Susan moved to Mt. San Antonio Gardens in 2023 after Jack received a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
