Dr. Wendy Slatkin will talk about her research on the art history of Pomona Valley, which is the subject of her books Portrait of a Community: Selections from the Chaffey Community Museum of  Art and Creative Art Communities of the Pomona Valley: 1930-1980, to be published later in 2024.

She is an art historian with over 30 years of teaching experience at the college level, with expertise in all time periods of western art history, from antiquity to the modern age, with a special interest in women artists. She has published a number of scholarly articles and also wrote Women Artists in History and In Her Own Words. Dr. Slatkin was guest curator for the Chaffey Community Museum of Art’s portion of the joint exhibition held with the Ontario Museum of History & Art, Then & Now: Women Artists of the Pomona Valley. The CCMA’s show, “Founding a Legacy”, focused on nine unique women artists born between 1893 and 1934, who developed professional careers affiliated with the Pomona Valley. She is curator of the CCMA’s current portion of the joint show, The Art of Healing: Highlights from the San Antonio Hospital Collection (showing June 27 to Oct. 20, 2024).
