Future Programs

University Club programs are open to the public and are held Tuesdays in the Padua Room of the Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Road, Claremont, California. A full buffet lunch, beginning at 11:30 AM, is available for $13.00. For those who wish to come only for coffee and dessert, the fee is $6.00. Membership applications are available at each meeting. January 6 – “A Crack in the Hermit Kingdom: Loma Linda University Dental School and North Korea

Speakers – Dr. Charles Goodacre and Dr. W. Patrick Naylor, Loma Linda University

Loma Linda University hosted the first group of dentists from the DPRK that were permitted to visit the US.  This led to a Loma Linda University visit to North Korea.  Observations from these visits will be presented in the talk. Charles Goodacre was Dean of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry for 19 years and currently serves as Professor of Prosthodontics. W. Patrick Naylor served for many years as Associate Dean for Advanced Education at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry before retiring, and continues to be associated part-time with Loma Linda.

January 13 – “An Update on World Affairs and Defense Issues”


Speaker – Bill Forti

Bill Forti will report from his unique access to high-level briefings.  Bill traveled for six weeks during August and September, visiting twelve countries in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.  He more recently visited the Northern Command and Space Systems Command in Colorado Springs, talking with top U.S. military officers there. Topics discussed in these visits include Russia, the European Union, NATO, immigration, Israel/Palestine, and ISIS. Bill Forti is a member and past president of the University Club. He has served as Staff Economist for several Senate and House committees of the US Congress. He also has served in executive positions with Bendix and General Dynamics. He is the co-founder and president of the William Mark Corporation, Director Emeritus of the Naval War College Foundation, and is on the Board of Visitors of the Claremont Graduate University.

January 20 – “A Ponzi Scheme Investigation in the Inland Empire”


Speaker – David Wall, Director of Forensics, EP Forensic & Valuation Services, LLP

David Wall’s talk is about his work on a fascinating fraud case that happened close to home. He has practiced in the field of forensic investigation and litigation consulting in Southern California for over 20 years. He is a Certified Public Accountant, attorney, and Certified Fraud Examiner. He represents clients in relation to white-collar fraud, shareholder and partnership disputes, purchase and sale disputes, bankruptcy litigation, and business loss/interruption claims. His specialties include the acquisition, reconstruction, analysis, and presentation of accounting records and other evidential material for use in legal proceedings.

January 27 –“The Foothill Gold Line, Present and Future”


Speaker – Lisa Levy Buch, Director of Public Affairs for the Foothill Gold Line

The Gold Line will shortly open the recently constructed expansion, extending the Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa. Lisa Levy Buch will present the background on the presently operating Gold Line, the construction authority, and an update on the expansion soon to be opened, including the benefits and impact on the communities. The approach to extending the construction from Azusa through Claremont to Montclair, and further expansion will also be discussed. Bring your questions.
